New Signs Provide Clear Direction
The old hodge podge of signage around McClellan is getting a face lift. New directional markers are being installed throughout McClellan. As a test, one of the small and one of the large sign panels were installed in early July.
"They've been received well by residents, visitors and board members" said JPA Marketing Committee chairman Pete Conroy, "we'll have the remaining ten signs installed in August, so hopefully we'll never have to worry about folks getting lost or confused again."
Visitors unfamiliar with the complicated network of roads and directional landmarks were sometimes perplexed. Fixing the problem could make the McClellan experience easier and aid in McClellan's redevelopment.
Funded by the McClellan JPA, the new signs are meant to replace the clutter of individual signs that could often be a puzzle. The new signs are designed with long-lasting, large, and simple text that is fully reflective for night drivers. They direct motorists to designated McClellan districts. For example, the "Education District" points to the shared McClellan campuses of Jacksonville State University, Gadsden State Community College and Auburn University.
Information can be added or removed from the panels so as to keep McClellan's directions current and up to date.
"Simplicity is often times a key, but simple and attractive is ever better"
said Conroy. "We've even seen a visitor posing for a picture with one our new panels - now that is a good sign, right?"
