Fall Fest Saturday at New Venue By Bill EdwardsAnniston Star Staff Writer, 10-17-2008
The third annual Fall Fest, sponsored and created by the Calhoun County Extension Office, has a new home this year: the Cane Creek Community Gardens at McClellan. The event previously was held on the green in front of Terra Cafe, but with the demise of the restaurant in August last year, extension officials figured their very own garden and shelter at McClellan would be the perfect alternative. The Fall Fest will be Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the fenced-in site of the gardens. (Turn into the McClellan property at the Anniston Middle School entrance and follow the road to a point just beyond Longleaf Lodge.) Admission is $1, but if you wear a Halloween costume you'll get in free. The gardens have been the scene of much activity lately, including the removal of part of one of the old Army buildings to create a patio, and the installation of restrooms. Crafts, food and music are the prime components of the festival, which extension officials said will include a quilts exhibit and competition, a home canning exhibit, a baked goods contest and cake walk, and equine exhibit, food for sale, live music, and handicrafts contests for several categories. Call the Cahoun County Extension office, 237-1621, or visit www.aces.edu/Calhoun for more information.
