Music at McClellan Concert Series 2006
The concert series began on Memorial Day weekend with the ASO performing Celebrate America. The sounds of Motown filled the summer air with the music of The Coasters with the ASO during the second concert. Bravo Broadway featured Tony Award Winners Debbie Gravitte and Michael Maguire with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra performing songs from all your favorite musicals as the concert series continued. The ASO presented Classics Under the Stars, complete with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, for an explosive finale to the season. Executive Director of the Alabama Symphony, Paul Ferrone, was thrilled about the new venue. "This is just a win-win situation in terms of reshaping and transforming a community. The arts have such a positive impact on doing that. It’s tourism. It’s economic development, quality of life, image, creating an identity for the community." The concert series brings the JPA one step closer to its goal of creating an arts venue at McClellan that attracts visitors and students from across the state and the Southeast. McClellan is promoting itself as a center for the arts while providing excellent entertainment and educational opportunities for the region. Plans are to reach people that might not otherwise have the opportunity or exposure to these venues. A variety of musical styles in the four programs has something for everyone. It is a great way for people to introduce children to the arts and music; all are encouraged to come and experience "Music at McClellan". Check back for information on the 2007 Concert Series.
