WJXS TV24 Moving to McClellan

Northeast Alabama’s CNN affiliate chooses central location

The McClellan JPA (Joint Powers Authority) is pleased to announce the sale of the former “Class VI Store”, to Alabama Heritage Properties, LLC, operators of WJXS TV 24. The building, once used to sell alcoholic beverages at the former military base is being prepared for a radical change. Shortly, the facility will undergo a thorough refit in order to host state-of-the-art broadcast and production facilities. It will serve as TV 24’s new and permanent home where it will reach over 225,000 households in Northeast Alabama.

“The entire JPA Board is excited to have channel 24 at McClellan”, said JPA Board Chairman Pappy Dunn. “They are a great fit and will add to the diversity of our commercial development. We welcome them and look forward to watching them grow and prosper.”

“The increased space, central location and McClellan’s growing base for business will give TV 24 a perfect launch facility for our current broadcasting efforts,” said Tom Williams, CEO of Alabama Heritage Communications LLC. “McClellan gives us what we need in our planned expansion and for our future growth. WJXS TV 24 is a commercial Birmingham market (DMA 40) television station. TV 24 is the only Birmingham market commercial broadcast station to make their broadcast home in the Northeast Alabama growth area. Our full service, news, sports and sales operations are here. It’s exciting to have a new home that is within minutes from Gadsden and soon when the road work is complete, out our back door to I-20.”

TV 24 is currently planning to convert to digital broadcast technology and to do so, they needed additional studio space. Currently WJXS TV 24’s broadcast studios are located on the campus of Jacksonville State University. Even though the move to McClellan will constitute a change for both, the current relationships regarding interns, student labor, on site and on location remote television training and the long term relationships with the athletic and other departments on campus will be maintained. “Actually with the move, TV 24 should be a better suited training facility for our area students” said Williams.

“Having TV-24 right here will be an added bonus for the JPA. They’ve always helped us to get our message out,” Chairman Dunn added. “Now, they’ll be more central to the region they serve but for us, they’ll be on site for Music at McClellan and other McClellan events, and that should assure us of even better coverage.”

“We are proud to be a part of the growing community at McClellan,” continued Tom Williams, “but, of course, we look forward to being good neighbors to all of Northeast Alabama.”
